A car is really a must since the villa sits up in the hills, quite a way out of town. There’s a bus stop about a 15-minute walk away, though the walk includes a hill. That same walk gets you to a cafe, bakery, mini market, and a lovely hotel where you can have a drink and watch the sunset. We stayed for three weeks in July, and the villa was fantastic for our large family, with plenty of room to spread out inside and around the grounds. It was spotless when we arrived, with a freshly baked pie and a huge fruit basket waiting for us. Matt and his wife were wonderful hosts, answered every question right away, and even arranged some basic groceries for our arrival when we asked. I’d definitely recommend this villa for an enjoyable holiday in the area.

We had 13 family members coming and going over our three weeks there in July, but the villa never felt crowded. There were lots of places to sit indoors and out. The pool was fantastic, shaded by olive trees, and the views towards Chania were amazing. The villa itself was huge and spotless, and the toiletries smelled lovely. Matt and his wife gave us such a warm welcome with a freshly baked pie, a big bowl of fresh fruit, a bottle of wine, and more. It’s a bit uphill, so you’re better off hiring a car. If you’re thinking about booking, go for it. You won’t regret it.

The outdoor space at villa koukounari was incredible, with all sorts of little spots to enjoy. One had the best view in town, another felt cozy, and by the pool it was like being in paradise. Inside was just as lovely, really spacious and so clean, with modern amenities, great decor, perfect beds, and every detail taken care of. The owners were kind and friendly too. I wish I could stay there forever!

A car is definitely needed for the hilly walk back out of Chania, but this was a great place to base ourselves while exploring the area. Fantastic villa for our girls’ holiday.
