Porto Del Colombo

My wife and I stayed at Porto Colombo for three nights in September and had a great time. The rooms were very nice, and the staff were super friendly and helpful. Its old town location close to the water would be hard to beat. We'd definitely stay again.

The breakfast at Porto Del Colombo was a lovely start to the day, with fresh fruit, Greek yogurt, cakes, bread, meats, eggs, and cheeses from 8:00. And Chania quickly became the highlight of our trip through Heraklion, Athens, Mykonos, and Santorini. We all agreed Porto De Colombo is where we’d want to stay again. My friends and I booked four rooms. I was in Room 3, which was lovely. The hotel has traditional character with modern comforts, but what made our visit special were the two women at reception. I’m sorry I can’t remember their names. They were so attentive and warm that we felt like guests in their home. When we arrived, they gave us a handwritten welcome note, fruity raki in elegant glasses, and jelly candies. They helped us choose a beach, booked us a cooking class that became one of our favorite experiences, and arranged dinner at Michael’s. We watched the sunset over the harbor while eating outside. After starting our Crete trip at an all-inclusive resort in Heraklion, Porto Del Colombo felt intimate and authentic. We often joke, “Next time when we come back…” and this time we mean it. For a heartfelt, memorable stay in Chania, we’d happily recommend it.

Flora and Rula gave fantastic service, and the breakfast was great. But for seniors, hauling suitcases up four flights of winding stairs is a dealbreaker. The room was also old, small, and dark. We moved to Domus Blanc, where the elevator made all the difference. I wouldn’t stay at Colombo again because of those stairs.

The harbor area’s shops, restaurants, and historical buildings are all about a 5-15 minute walk away. The hotel itself is a little away from the waterfront bars and restaurants, which worked well for me as an early sleeper. Our room was comfortable, and everyone we met was friendly, helpful, and accommodating. They arranged a taxi from the airport, which was useful since you can’t drive right up to the hotel. The driver helped us with our bags, too. I’d gladly stay here again.
