Marialice Apartments

Memos is what keeps bringing me back to Marialice Apartments. He's always ready with a kind word, a useful suggestion, or a local tip, and guests are welcomed with homemade olive oil and lemonade made from Corfu lemons. I've returned for almost 30 years, and despite knowing Corfu so well, I've never wanted to stay elsewhere. Marialice sits on a gentle hillside about 400-500 meters from the sea. The pool is spacious, sparkling clean, and shaded by the palms and olive trees, with a cool breeze drifting through. I usually explore the island's beaches and villages by car, and Dassia is a handy base, just 13 km from Corfu Town. It feels like somewhere you return to because it feels like home.

The view from my balcony is amazing, and the pool is just the right size. It's such a lovely, peaceful place. The hill takes about seven minutes and is pretty steep, so it's not exactly fun, but at least it keeps you fit, lol. No complaints 👍

We were relieved to find an apartment at the last minute after our original plans fell apart, but on the first night we found that everything was dirty. Ants were all over the apartment, and that wasn't even the main problem. We were four people and had only one roll of toilet paper, with no hand soap or dish soap. The cutlery had old food stuck to it and was disgusting. On the second night a huge rat ran past my feet, went into the bedroom, then escaped through a hole in the fly screen. We couldn't sleep with the windows open, while air conditioning cost an extra €5 per night. We complained politely, but he blamed the cleaner and the previous guests, never apologized or took responsibility, and wouldn't offer free air conditioning for our last night despite the heat. The hole was already there when we arrived, and the rat seemed to know its way around, which makes me wonder how often it had been inside. The whole stay made our vacation miserable; we were constantly wondering what we'd find next.

The view was beautiful, the pool was great, and the owner was enjoyable, but I had a hard time staying here. Our group of five was there for five nights, and we never got fresh towels or sheets. The apartment didn't seem to get cleaned at all. The air conditioner was broken and had no remote, which was really not okay in midsummer, especially since it was advertised as available. Mosquitoes still got through the nets, and the buzzing and bites kept me awake. I got bitten less outside than in my own bed. The bathroom was pretty gross too, so I wore flip-flops in the shower. We weren't given a sponge or dish soap, then the owner got mad at checkout because the dishes weren't done and the place was “messy.” Why charge a cleaning fee, or at least not provide anything to wash dishes with? The walk to get anywhere is BRUTAL. If you have mobility issues or other physical needs, this place probably won't work unless you rent a car or take taxis everywhere. The cats wandering around were adorable, though.
