Mythos Hotel

The owners were especially thoughtful, sharing local history and recommendations and making us feel at home. Mythos Hotel in Elatochori, Greece, sits among beautiful scenery and gave us a peaceful getaway. Our room was kept in excellent condition and combined modern comfort with Greek charm. We also enjoyed delicious local food at the on-site restaurant. Between the setting, comfortable stay, good meals, and warm hospitality, our visit was memorable. A lovely choice for an authentic Greek experience.

Lovely mountain views, comfortable rooms and beds, and very friendly staff. Breakfast had delicious local dishes and products, and there was a full wine list. Try the baked and grilled beef and lamb, and the "babalokeftedes" appetizer made with wild greens in fried balls. Great value for money.

The biggest issue for us was the lack of working central heating in spring 2023. The air conditioning in the central hall took hours to warm the rooms, and the fireplace was in the main hall, so even though I eventually got a nice fire going after several tries, it couldn’t properly heat our room. The outside parking was in desperate need of repair, poorly lit, and had no gravel path to the stairs for the upper rooms. The backyard was abandoned and full of junk, though the nearby soccer field was fun. Inside, the bathroom was cold and looked like it needed renovation. The hair dryer was hanging from an unscrewed wall mount, which I fixed myself, and the wiring was messy, with TV and electrical cables exposed. There were odd closets that tourists didn’t need and the decor was poor. Breakfast looked nice and was plentiful, if simple, but the room felt more like a Greek taverna than a hotel dining area, with loud traditional Greek music playing at 8am. Some of the staff were polite, hardworking, and trying their best. My impression was that the owners or managers were careless and running the place poorly. The hotel has a good location and potential, and could improve with a small investment and better management. The pictures online looked great, but we left disappointed and felt fooled. My wife complained about my hotel choice for the next two weeks.

After a long trip around the area with our dog, we came back the next day for another meal, even though we arrived late. The food was superb both times, and the people were just as kind and accommodating on our return. We’d found the place while looking for somewhere to eat, and it turned out to be a lovely, well-kept family business. I’d happily recommend it and plan to stay there next time we’re in the area.
