Zeus Eretria Resort

The restaurant’s Greek and European dishes were even better than I expected, and the big, clear pool was a real plus. Eretria Hotel is conveniently located not far from the airport, with a lush garden full of flowers and easy access to a quiet, pretty beach with a few pebbles. What made the stay especially good was the staff: everyone was friendly, professional, and helpful. I highly recommend it. Great job, keep it up!

My wife and I, aged 67 and 70, found the walk to the beach easy. A friendly lady welcomed us there, and we enjoyed the comfortable sun loungers and clear turquoise water. We also visited Eretria Town, not far away, where there’s a museum with wonderful ancient exhibits and an ancient Greek theatre. Evia, especially around Eretria, has a cultural history of three thousand years. The hotel’s setting is beautiful, with an interesting mix of architecture and lush vegetation. We were comfortable and felt warmly welcomed. The food wasn’t extravagant, but there were plenty of treats, including traditional Greek bean soup that even gourmets could enjoy. The artistic shows were high quality, with Greek music and dancing, hit songs played by a virtuoso trumpeter, and a lady with a wonderful voice. At night, geckos on the walls by the lanterns seemed to lie in wait for mosquitoes. Along with the lovely oleanders, I’d put these cute reptiles on the hotel emblem. De gustibus non disputandum, but Eretria Hotel gave us, a romantic older couple, our dream holiday. Thank you very much, Eretria Hotel. Thank you very much. Multumesc! Teia and Sorin Cucu, ROMANIA.

We left at one o’clock in the morning and had to make the tired night trip back to Athens. Nobody offered a refund or even a simple apology. During our mid October visit, it was 27 degrees in the daytime, but our room had no air conditioning and was so hot we couldn’t sleep. The receptionist suggested opening the windows. With no mosquito nets, that let a cat sized cockroach into the room. The shared balconies were another problem. When my girlfriend first stepped outside, a man in his underwear was there, and she didn’t want to spend any more time at the hotel. The indoor pool was cold, the sauna really small, and the floors throughout the spa were very dirty. The place seems to have been built at least half a century ago and is poorly maintained. Worst experience of my life.

The island is easy to explore, but you’ll need a small car, and take care on the winding roads to the beaches. Evia is a wonderful, unspoilt part of Greece, and I’ve been lucky enough to stay here. There’s something special about this place, and the Eretria Resort team plays its part in making it somewhere to recharge your batteries. We appreciated hearing different native languages around the hotel. A few Greeks were staying while we were there, along with lots of French guests and very few people of other nationalities. The room was cleaned daily and the towels smelled fresh. You can see the care and attention throughout, though the facilities could use some upgrading. Tripadvisor reviews sometimes need reading between the lines to get a sense of a place and its service style. With Eretria Hotel, I think you can trust the positive reviews and ignore the negative ones. It’s a wonderful place to stay.
