Aktaion Hotel

We only stopped by this hotel by chance, but were met with helpful, courteous service right away. We stayed three nights and enjoyed them a lot. Our room at the back had a balcony and was very quiet despite being on the harbor front. It was immaculately clean, and breakfast was excellent. We’d definitely stay again.

The sea-view room was a great choice. Even though the hotel is on the main road, we slept soundly and didn’t hear street noise at night. There are quite a few stairs to reach most rooms, which suited the historic building. The room was extremely clean, with thoughtful extras like vanity kits and toothbrush sets in the bathroom. Breakfast was delicious, and the staff were pleasant. Clean, central, friendly, and full of history. We’ll visit again.

One thing to know before you arrive: there’s no elevator, and the stairs up are long and steep. The desk staff were wonderful with our luggage, though you’ll have to manage the rest yourself. Once inside, the rooms are classically furnished, with spacious, spotless ensuite shower rooms and plenty of water with easy-to-adjust temperature. We stayed in one of the two lovely single rooms at the front. Breakfast is well worth having, with juice, tea or coffee, croissants, breads, muffins, ham, bacon, and cheese, served by an exceptionally friendly team. The Aktaion sits right on the harbor, an easy walk from the boat, with lots of bars and restaurants within five minutes. Syros is a lovely, lively island, and I can’t wait to return.

The people working here are incredible. The rooms are clean and well organized, with simple but elegant decor. It’s centrally located and an easy walk from the port.
