The Nestorian Syros

The staff made this stay feel especially welcoming. Their warmth felt real, and they were quick to help. After we asked about a nearby village, someone at reception wrote out the bus times and directions by hand. We also appreciated the inclusive atmosphere, where everyone was treated with respect. We liked the hotel enough to add two nights. Our room was spacious and bright, with lovely bedding, a wonderful bed and pillows, quality toiletries, a Nespresso machine, ironing board, and small fridge. The renovated mansion has a quietly stylish look, with thoughtful design throughout. Breakfast was homely, with a good spread and hot dishes to choose from. The neighborhood is peaceful, with no street noise. It took about 12 minutes to walk to the port, while restaurants and cafes were only around five minutes away. A very comfortable stay.

We were glad to have the hotel’s small garage, since parking in Ermoupoli can be difficult. It fits about four or five cars, and after letting them know ahead, we had a secure spot beneath the hotel. The staff were kind and even returned our laundry clean and ironed, which helped on a longer trip. Our entrance-level room was impressively spacious, with plenty of storage, a comfortable bathroom and a large shower. There was also a balcony with a jacuzzi, though we found the jacuzzi complicated to operate and didn’t really enjoy using it. The balcony itself was lovely. Nestorian House is small, charming and traditionally renovated, with an intimate boutique feel at breakfast. It’s in the heart of Ermoupoli, about two or three minutes on foot from Vaporia beach. It’s more a concrete pier with ladders than a sandy beach, but the water is fantastic and easy to reach for a quick morning swim. We stayed seven nights and had a really enjoyable time. We’d come back.

After a week island hopping, my wife and I grabbed a last-minute room at The Nestorian House. It was just the restful change we needed after so much time on the water. The hotel is welcoming, well equipped, and tastefully converted, in a lovely part of a great little town. The staff were attentive and breakfast was generous and delicious. We hated leaving, but had to catch our passage back toward Athens. We’ll visit again.

The rooms are decorated beautifully and keep the island’s character. We were treated with courtesy and wonderful hospitality, and everything was clean. See you next time.
