Vaporia

We loved our stay at Vaporia. There was a lovely cool breeze all day and night, and the room was clean with a nice view. Getting there on foot means climbing quite a few steps, but that wasn’t a problem for us. The island’s free public transport was useful for trips to and from the center.

The owner, Mr. Antonis, was very hospitable. He met us at the port and drove us to the hotel. The area is quiet and close to the center of Ermoupolis, and there are several parking spots very near the accommodation. The hotel was spotless, and the price felt very good for Ermoupolis and what was provided. We were completely satisfied and would recommend it to anyone visiting Syros.

The 110 steps to the rooms were a huge downside, exhausting especially in summer. Soundproofing was basically absent. We could hear the people upstairs all the time, as well as several neighbors, which was tiring too. The view was zero. The room was spacious and had a refrigerator, but no kitchen or even a way to make coffee. Getting a coffee meant tackling those 110 steps and walking another 300-400 meters. I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone.

We had a basic room on the ground floor. The cleaning lady came in every day, which was the good part. The main drawback was the location: getting to the rooms meant a long, endless climb up the island’s very steep stairs.
