We came from Greece, so we have pretty high standards for Greek food, and this family taverna has impressed us every time we've eaten here. The food is good, the people are lovely, the prices are good, and the place has great energy. Artemis and George are among the nicest people you could meet, and plenty of locals come here since it's open all year, not just for tourist season. There are lots of things we enjoyed: rabbit and beef stifado, grilled lamb chops, oven-baked lamb, the burger with eggplant, dolmadakia, mousaka, and the handmade gyros. The owner even makes the gyros himself, which you won't find in many places in Greece. Artemis finishes the meal with her delicious homemade sweets and local raki. It's easy to park, there's good shade under the trees during the day, and children have a special area with games to play. Can't ask for more.

The family who own this place are so nice, and we love sitting at a table beneath the beautiful trees in this natural setting. We've eaten here five times already, and it's been good every time. If you're in Frangokastello, give it a try. They always have different daily specials made fresh. We've had Moussaka, Boureki, meatballs, squid, and my favorite, stuffed chicken. Trust me, you can't go wrong with that chicken. Their pork souvlaki is the best we've tried anywhere on the island, including Ierapetra, Kolymbari, Pachia Ammos, and Akrotiri. It's tasty, well marinated, lean, and tender. A great spot for authentic Cretan food at reasonable prices.

We've eaten at this charming family taverna in Frangokastello three times so far. The homemade food comes in generous portions, tastes delicious, and is very well priced. Dining beneath the shaded trees is a lovely way to enjoy the natural surroundings, and the warm welcome made us feel right at home. A real gem for hospitality and quality. Highly recommended!
