Villa Athermigo

Chrisa, who works at the Villa, brought us breakfast every morning with a big smile, lively energy, and helpful tips about the area. The garden, peaceful setting, view, and natural stone pool all give the whole Villa a unique feeling. After four nights, leaving was really hard. It felt like a home away from home, and we’ll be back 100%. Thank you for making our first visit to Crete so special!

The pool and garden were the highlights for me. I could have spent hours in the sun, enjoying how peaceful everything felt. Villa Athermigo is a delightful little gem in the Cretan mountains, surrounded by gorgeous scenery and a charming local town, a real break from the hustle and bustle. I stayed for a few days in September. The room was rustic and beautiful, with a luxurious feel I hadn’t expected from such a small hotel. If you want somewhere quiet to unwind and take in Crete’s natural beauty, I can’t recommend Villa Athermigo enough.

What made the stay feel so special was Vasilis and Antonia. They greeted us each morning with warm smiles and easy conversation, and were thoughtful about everything we needed. Since I'm vegan, they even went out of their way to make sure I had more for breakfast than the tomatoes and bread I would have been happy with. Their local suggestions led us to places we might not have found on our own, including some wonderfully authentic restaurants. They’re kind, polite, and helpful, and we left feeling like we’d made friends for life. The villa is beautiful, peaceful, and rich with history, which the hosts are always happy to share. It sits surrounded by nature, and Gavalochori is a lovely quiet village. Local restaurants are about a 10 minute walk away, with delicious Greek food and no need to search elsewhere. Villa Athermigo is stunning on its own, but Vasilis and Antonia made our time in Crete truly special. We can’t thank them enough, and can’t wait to return.

The garden, pool, and peaceful setting made it hard to think about leaving. The rooms are lovely, with so much care put into the details, and the girls running the place provide impeccable service. It’s a fantastic little find if you want to take in inland Crete. I dare you to find somewhere better.
