Gavdos Princess

I only tried the restaurant, not the hotel. The hilltop setting was hard to beat, with a welcome breeze and partly covered outdoor seating. The building is new but has a traditional style, right in the tiny town center. Staff were friendly and accommodating, and when I couldn’t finish my Cretan salad, the chef kindly wrapped it up for me to take away. The menu is made with fresh local ingredients, and the traditional dishes are simple, tasty, and clearly made with care. My grilled beef steak was cooked just right, and the seasoned fries and Cretan salad were both good choices. Prices were modest, no higher than on the main island. I’d happily go back.

The restaurant is a real highlight, from a quiet coffee at breakfast to lunch in the sun, dinner by the fireplace, and even a disco afterwards. The rooms have all the amenities, and the whole place feels homely. You can enjoy your own space or get to know the lovely owners. A beautiful place to stay while visiting Gavdos, and highly recommended.

We only had a day on Gavdos, so George helped us plan a tight itinerary and even drove us to the start of the beach hike when we couldn’t work out how to get there ourselves. He and his family were incredibly kind. We’d booked an apartment for five by phone the day before, and they met us at the ferry and drove us to the property, a real help on an island with little transport beyond the bus. The apartment was basic but suited us, and the property itself was cute, with a nice view and a taverna. Dinner there was amazing. Thanks to George and the family for such warm hospitality. We hope to return :)

Our five nights on Gavdos turned into seven because bad weather delayed the ferry back to the mainland, and we ended up having one of our best holidays ever. The accommodation was perfect for us, with a good kitchen and bathroom, plus a lovely balcony for breakfast among the birds and nature. George and his brother Leek welcomed us warmly, picked us up at the port, and were always friendly and kind. Their advice on nice walks was really helpful. We were sad to leave and would love to come back. Thank you both!
