Pilot Beach Resort

We visited during the October half term and everything was spot on for a family holiday. The buffet was incredible, with lots of variety and dishes constantly topped up. Rooms were nice and spacious, and housekeeping staff were friendly and always willing to help. It’s a great resort in a quiet area, with a private beach, free sun loungers, a beach bar, and a swimming pool. I fully recommend it.

The all-you-can-eat setup means some of the food doesn’t get the appreciation it deserves, because quite a lot of it is really well made and above average. The staff are fantastic, and the food is excellent. We’ve been here about a week and everything else has been positive too. It’s all clean and generally usable, and good value for money, though some small renovations are due, for example around the indoor pool. The mini disco is set away from the main restaurant. We’re here with a small child, but were glad to have a room far from the kids’ pool and mini disco noise. We’ve heard they may move the kids’ area to the edge of the resort, which sounds like a good idea. For day trips within an hour, we recommend taking a taxi instead of renting a car.

There’s plenty for my kids, aged 5, 10 and 13, to do in the pools, messing about with floats or snorkeling in the sea. This is a simple, no-frills place, though, so anyone wanting lots of activities and water slides may be disappointed. The beach is nice, the pools are basic, and the children’s club is reasonable. It was usually easy to find a bed by the pool or beach, but the beach pool was packed early, so we avoided it. The food is excellent quality, but there aren’t really snack stations. If you don’t want a full sit-down meal, you can’t just grab pizza or a sandwich. Drinks are available, but you have to go to the bar and ask; staff don’t really come around during the day. The entertainment was good and they did their best, but it started late, at 9pm, when the kids were tired. The all-inclusive setup uses a card, and it was annoying that some things were included and others weren’t. I ordered a children’s cocktail and was told it would cost 8 euros. A few things like that irritated me, given how much we spent. Most people were friendly, though one bar staff member was rude on one occasion. Maybe they were hot, fed up with the same questions, or needed a break. I like this place and think it’s a nice, good-quality hotel, but it didn’t have the luxurious feel you sometimes find in a real gem. Four stars, not five, in my opinion.

We visited in October, and the pools were cold at that time of year. It’s a lovely, large resort with a great selection of food and activities. Our room felt a little worn, and there was mould in the bathroom. It may be because we went at the end of the season, but the place could use a bit of TLC.
