The private pool was a big reason we chose Villa Fortuna, and it was a treat to start the day with a swim in the sun. The scenery was just as lovely, with mountains behind the villa, olive groves out front, and views of the sea. The location near Kournas is excellent, though the villa feels quite isolated, so you’ll need a car. Kournas is small, while the lake is close by. For shops, cafes, and restaurants, Georgioupoli is about a 15-20 minute drive away. There were four of us, and the three bedrooms and two bathrooms gave us plenty of room. The beds were on the hard side and not especially comfortable, though I know mattress preferences vary. A welcome pack with basic instructions for the washing machine, air conditioning, and coffee machine would have helped. The coffee maker was bean-to-cup, which I found less convenient than a pod machine. A little tea, coffee, and milk for the first day would also have been a nice touch before going to the supermarket, but it wasn’t a deal-breaker. We had a fabulous stay at Villa Fortuna in late September and would gladly return or recommend it to anyone looking for a self-catering villa in this part of Crete. Finding it at first was a bit tricky, especially arriving in the very early hours.
