The family running this small hotel put a lot of care into the garden and outdoor spaces. There are lovely plants all around, a hammock in the backyard, and most rooms are set away from the road, so you don’t notice the traffic much at the hotel. We liked our stay, and the staff were especially kind and helpful. They even brought me gluten-free bread each morning, along with a simple breakfast that changed daily, from boiled eggs to Greek scrambled eggs, with fresh fruit every day. They really deserve credit for how hard they work to make the place feel homey. It’s a quiet spot, with the beach right beside the pool area, though the beach is rocky. The pool itself was fine, and the sunbeds were free, but there was a charge for the sunshade. That didn’t bother us because when we wanted shade, we moved loungers to the beach and sat under the trees. Waves sometimes tossed us around on the rocks, and there was a red flag on most days, but I guess that’s nature. The location was the difficult part for us. It felt far from things, and walking to Platanias or Maleme wasn’t appealing because of the busy road in front. You need a bus or car for most outings. We liked being away from the busiest areas and having a less crowded stretch of beach than near Chania, but most restaurants were a long way off, and the buses weren’t very reliable. A car would help if you want to get around. The rooms were a bit primitive for us. The beds were very hard, especially one of them, and we missed having a sink and cleaning tools for the two plates and cutlery in the room. A small kitchen, or even a microwave or hot plate, would have been useful on days we didn’t want to take the bus back to town for dinner. Those are small upgrades that could make things better. Don’t expect luxury or high-class rooms. The breakfast was simple, the pool was fine, and the staff’s kindness is what stood out most to us. We liked staying here.

The room itself was okay, but there were no power sockets by the bed, only by the door and fridge. The bathroom was mediocre, the bin far too small, and the sheets had stains and holes. There were dead bugs on the wall. The cleaning lady was friendly, though. The breakfast was really disappointing: not much to choose from, and the day's hot dish was hard-boiled eggs. The pool had sand in the water and on the bottom, and there weren’t enough parasols, so some guests got sunburned or had to wait for one to open up. Drinks were overpriced, and we weren’t allowed to bring our own to the pool. The shop next door sells beer for 2.5 euros while the hotel charges 5. The Wi-Fi was awful, slow and often without a signal. Everything was cash only, including food, drinks, late checkout, and visitor tax. In 2025, guests shouldn’t have to go on a trip just to get cash. The manager also kept after us about using the air conditioning even though we paid almost 14k for a hotel where it was included. We planned to use it throughout our seven-day stay, even when we weren’t in the room. He called us out in front of everyone, saying he’d already told us to turn it off. After that confrontation, I decided not to argue with him about the rest of these things. This felt like a one-star hotel dressed up as a three-star one. I can’t recommend it.

The beach is only 20 metres away, and after midnight the sounds are mostly waves and crickets, with a few cars in the distance. We enjoyed a cold beer on the balcony in that quiet. The family who run the place are lovely, the service is great, and the meals are tasty and inexpensive. Definitely worth staying.

There’s some potential here, but our experience was very bad. Breakfast and dinner were the same every day, and the food didn’t seem to be stored properly. The salad was warm, with no chilled display case, and they didn’t make fresh soap daily, so it was used for two or three days. There was no air conditioning in the breakfast area. They had a fan, but never switched it on. When we arrived, there was melted ice cream in the freezer, which had been left off. We were also told not to use sun oil or sun protection on the sunbeds. It feels like a lot needs to change. It seems to be a family business, so perhaps no one is taking care of these things, but who knows. Other guests had a very bad experience too.

The people running this nice beach hotel were lovely, and both the food and the pool were good. I’d come back.
