London Hotel

The hotel is a useful base for exploring the region, within walking distance of the Glyfada beaches and close to bus stops for Athens airport and the city center. The staff are friendly and can help arrange trips from the hotel, such as a sunset visit to Cape Sounio. My room was clean and comfortable, with a large bed, kettle, tea, instant coffee, and a small fridge. It looked a little dated. Rooms on the south-western side have balconies with great views over the beach towards the island of Egina. Breakfast had a range of hot and cold food and drinks.

The rooftop terrace was a highlight. In the evening, the food and drinks there were delicious and noticeably better quality than breakfast. Breakfast itself was decent, with a nice range, though nothing special. The reception and restaurant staff were friendly and helpful, and the rooms were consistently clean and well kept. I had a pleasant stay at Hotel London, and it was quite affordable for what it offered. My only issue was the housekeeper. She wasn’t very friendly, didn’t speak English, and responded rather rudely when I asked her for something. Even so, it was a good experience for the price, and I’d recommend the hotel to anyone after an affordable, comfortable stay.

It was decent value for money. The hotel was clean, breakfast was acceptable, and the orange juice made from real oranges was a pleasant surprise. Most staff were helpful, though one receptionist wasn’t much help and spoke little English, which I’d expect someone in that role to know. The rooms were a bit noisy, so better street-side sound insulation would help. Maria, one of the waitresses, gave us truly exceptional service. I’m still not sure what the pool is for if guests can’t use it.

Panos was the one bright spot in a terrible experience. He was compassionate, patient, and genuinely caring, spending over an hour on the phone with me and my bank at 1 a.m. his time to try to sort things out. There was only so much he could do within his role, but I’d absolutely be friends with him. Thank you, Panos. I booked in January with the same card I used for two other hotels booked at the same time, and those payments went through without a problem. The London had a processing issue on its end, and the payment wasn’t processed, so it cancelled my reservation after 24 hours. By the time I found out, the hotel was fully booked. My bank told them there had been no declined charge, or even an attempted charge, for them to reject. The hotel then offered, very graciously (sarcasm), one night instead of the two I’d booked, for the same price. I had to book another hotel across the street and deal with checking in and out every day for three days. The room itself was a decent size, and the bathroom was too. The shower pressure was so high that the shower head broke its handheld holder. When I turned it on, it swung from pointing down to blasting me in the face. They replaced it with a cheap plastic holder mounted on the wall, which broke on the first use and sprayed water over the shower door, soaking it. 10/10 do not recommend.
