The staff were all really kind and friendly, but we probably wouldn’t return. The food was warm, colourful, and plentiful, yet repetitive and lacking creativity. If you’re after any kind of culinary experience, this isn’t the place. We were there in September, and with kids there wasn’t much to do: no entertainment or even basic facilities for them. The hotel doesn’t seem to cater much to families. Getting to the sea takes quite a while. The beach shuttle is fine, but its fixed departures at 10:00, 12:30, and 15:00 mean you have to plan around it. Crossing the main road from Heraklion with a stroller felt like an adrenaline sport. Gouves beach is great when the wind dies down, but at the end of September, after a windy day, it was full of seaweed and the waves were rough. There’s basically nowhere to walk around the hotel, so renting a car and going elsewhere is best. Stalis beach, for instance, is fantastic with kids.

The food was great, and the staff were very friendly with us and our small children. We had a great seven-day stay. We never used the pools, since we spent all our time in the sea. I’d come back.

We had a fantastic stay at Lyda Hotel, with delicious food and plenty of activities. There’s a lot of space and beautiful pools. The service was excellent, especially from Mr. George, who went above and beyond. Highly recommend!

We spent a week here as a family and, unfortunately, it wasn’t enjoyable. The rooms were dirty, and the hotel generally felt very unclean. Our room was cleaned just once in ten days. Only one room in the apartment had air conditioning, and it broke a few days into the stay, leaving all four of us sleeping in one room. The shower water ran yellow, and a window handle fell off. The food was terrible, with very little choice and nothing the children could eat. We ended up paying a few hundred a day to eat out for all three meals. For an all-inclusive hotel, the free drinks were only local beer, wine, or off-brand soft drinks. Cocktails cost €8, which was disappointing. Staff were rude and dismissive, shrugging when we reported the broken air conditioning. We hardly saw the manageress, and her office was hidden and hard to find. The listing mentions amenities that weren’t actually there: it says five pools, but there were only three; there’s no spa; there was no entertainment at all during our week; and the arcade was just a few claw machines. Sunbeds often broke, and a parasol that was clearly broken flew out and hit me in the face. This shouldn’t be rated three or four stars. It was a terrible experience, and I wouldn’t recommend it.

I’ve never stayed at a worse three-star hotel. This should be one star. The rooms were filthy, the hotel was generally dirty, and our room was only cleaned once in ten days. Staff and the manager were rude, including at reception. The all-inclusive food was shocking, poor quality, barely edible, and with hardly any choice for children. The milk for hot drinks and cereal was always off. I asked for sparkling water at the bar and was served yellow water. Pizza wasn’t included, and they charged €8 for one. The included drinks were awful, and the daily snack was just one item, either a tiny dried-up croissant, a cake, or fish fingers cut into pieces. We had to spend extra to eat out because the food at club lyda was so bad. Valentinas next door saved our holiday; the hotel is in a quiet part of Gouves, but you can walk to the beach and restaurants in 15 minutes. There’s also good bus service to Malia and Hersonissos. Avoid Club Lyda at all costs!
