Iraklion Hotel

We left before breakfast and wouldn't recommend staying here, not even as an escape from prison. We spent just one night before starting our vacation and felt miserable. The room had old, office-like furniture and looked as if it hadn't been cleaned in a month. The bathroom was awful, with no shower curtain. The outside air conditioner was so loud it felt like a bus was parked on the balcony. That balcony was dirty and wet from the unit, with two lousy chairs and a table. This hotel should be one star at most. It's a disgrace to Greece and Crete.

We felt safe leaving our belongings here, and the room was clean, with the space laid out very well. Staff were friendly and helpful. The breakfast was delicious, high quality, and offered plenty of choices. The location is central, with easy access to public transport.

The buffet breakfast had lots of continental options, and every room has a balcony, which is a nice feature. It's a pretty good, fairly standard hotel just outside the old town, unlike many of the boutique places in that area. The desk staff quickly helped when we needed another key and arranged taxis. The shower was very small, and its curtain kept sticking to me whenever I turned around. It seems a lot of showers in Greece are small.

The location is the one good thing: close to the center, with the airport bus stop right outside. The rest of the place was run-down, and for the price I found it unacceptable. The bathroom had a broken shower holder and no toilet flush button. Furniture in the room had stains all over it, some large and downright disgusting. The chair and curtains were dirty, and the floor stayed dirty and was never cleaned. There were exposed electrical wires covered in insulating tape, which certainly isn't ideal if you have children.
