Lato Boutique Hotel

The breakfast was awful, so don’t bother with it. The room, though, was lovely and clean, with a great bed and a nice balcony facing the marina. The sea and pedestrian area are both a five-minute walk away. Perfectly located, and I’ll definitely be back!

The rooftop bar was a highlight: friendly staff, good prices for the city, and a view stretching at least 270 degrees across town, the seafront, and the ports. Breakfast was good too. There weren’t many hot choices, but there were plenty of unusual things to try, including my favorite, four kinds of syrup-soaked fruit, a bit like glacé fruit. The staff also stored our luggage before and after our stay, with each bag labelled by room number, a nice touch. Our Superior Double Room Sea View was surprisingly small, with little beyond a bed and a small desk. The balcony barely fit the two chairs, with an air conditioner taking up the rest, and there was hardly room for our legs. The view down to the Venetian fortress was excellent, though. The air conditioner was noisy, and a poor door seal let in a lot of wind noise, but otherwise it was quiet. I looked into a suite while it was being cleaned, and it seemed a good size, with a separate sitting area. From the floor plan, that’s the smallest room I’d consider for a longer stay. The hotel is right in the heart of Heraklion, very handy for both the old and new ports, and a good option for a couple of nights. I was glad I only stayed two nights, though, and spent the rest of my trip at a more premium hotel elsewhere on the island. It was fine for what it offered, and the staff were very good.

We only had one night, but the people were so helpful. The upstairs restaurant served great food and had wonderful views across the Harbour. Our room was clean and the bed very comfortable. We could easily explore the nearby streets and harbour from the hotel. We’ll stay longer next time!

Nikos at the front desk was the best part, so friendly and amazingly helpful. The location in Heraklion is great too, and we had a nice sea view from our room.
