Blue Horizon Hotel

I had a nice week here for my birthday this year. The restaurant was clean and the food was delicious, and the staff were kind and helpful. The pool could have been a bit cleaner, as someone pooped in it one day. Still, I’d recommend Blue Horizon Hotel in Ialysos, Rhodes, and would book it again someday. The location, right beside the beach, is great.

There’s a tree-covered path to the beach, about five minutes away, and a cafe there where you can get food if you’re on half board. The restaurant serves great food three times a day, and there’s entertainment in the bar most nights with table service. The hotel and rooms are lovely, and the pool is a good size with a lifeguard. They provide towels, so you don’t need to bring your own.

The only small downside was the dust collectors in the morning. We were on the side where they came every day, and they were really loud, so be warned if your room is on the left side. It’s not the hotel’s fault. Otherwise, our stay was lovely from start to finish. The location, room and staff were all very good, and there’s plenty of food with lots of choices for different tastes.

We had a lovely week at Blue Horizon. Our standard room had a sea view, so we watched the sunrise each morning, and the hotel beach is a great spot for both sunrise and sunset. The room was cleaned every day and always felt fresh. We had no trouble finding sunbeds by the pool, despite reading reviews that said it could be difficult. Planes fly overhead often, but it didn’t bother us, and they’re part of staying near the airport. Samy and Ben were great, running everything from daytime water sports to an evening fire show. Aqua aerobics was our favourite. There was entertainment every evening except Sunday. Dinner was good, though the service could have been better. The drinks system was a bit chaotic, and some staff seemed stressed or abrupt. We checked in very late after a delayed flight, and the night receptionist wasn’t welcoming, which made for a poor first impression. The hotel could make information about events and facilities easier to find. There was just one small board listing activities, and it was easy to miss. Posters in the lifts or around the hotel, plus room information about amenities and useful numbers, would help. The location is great, with lots of shops nearby and a shuttle to Rhodes Town that costs €8 per person return. We had a great time, though communication and service could use a few small improvements.
