Sun Beach Resort

The whole place has a relaxed feel, and the hotel is right on the beach with great pools. The staff were friendly and helpful throughout, especially at the beach bar. Michael makes the best cocktails I’ve ever had, and serves them with a smile and a chat. I’d definitely recommend staying here. Try one of Michael's espresso martinis while you watch the sunset. Beautiful!

My wife and I stayed at Sun Beach Resort in Ialisos from September 9-16, 2024. We counted down the days until we could leave. I’d urge people not to consider this hotel. It should not be rated four stars, as that misrepresents what it’s actually like. The room we were moved to was cleaner, but still felt like a very basic two-star room. There were tiny ants in the bathroom, apparently coming up through a drain. Reviews suggested ants were an issue at the hotel. I handled them myself because we couldn’t face another move to a room that might be worse, so I didn’t report them. We felt stuck on an island abroad with nowhere else to go. We asked reception about our concerns with the first room and got a very rude response from a male staff member, who said he couldn’t do anything because the hotel was fully booked. I contacted the travel company I booked through and sent photos. They advised me to go back to reception in the morning. A hotel staff member called that morning to say another room was available to view. The first room looked grubby and outdated, nothing like four-star accommodation. In the small bathroom, there was a live cockroach, and the toilet was dirty, with marks around the top of the bowl. The tap, mirror and door had red marks. The old shower was in an outdated bath, with a dirty curtain and mould. The soap dispensers, even the one in the bath, looked like they belonged in public toilets. There was hair on the bed, brown marks of questionable origin on the sheets, a stained, dirty pillow, a chipped bed board, stained and ripped curtains, and a large sticky mark on the wooden dresser, possibly old chewing gum. We’d taken a small, outdated lift up to the room after checking in, and soon realized the hotel was nowhere close to four stars, more like two. The room seemed to come from a bygone era and was quite dirty. In hindsight, I should have checked the reviews before booking. With all the negative comments, I wouldn’t have chosen this hotel.

The adult pool is a fantastic idea, and the kids’ pools were spotless too. I was in room 430, which was immaculate. The cleaner was kind and did a brilliant job every day. My only issue was the old fridge, which was sometimes difficult to keep closed.

We had a great stay as a family of four, and our sea-view suite didn’t disappoint. The rooms were cleaned daily, and the staff were friendly. The hotel was lovely and clean, with three pools, the usual amenities and plenty of places to eat. It’s towards the far end of the resort, so the location isn’t the best, but I’d still recommend it.
