Cavo Suites

The staff were excellent, friendly, helpful, and polite, and I’d come back. We booked a short Jet2 trip with another hotel at first, then were offered this as a substitute. I’m glad we accepted. Our swim-up suite faced south, so it got sunshine as soon as we stepped through the patio doors. The room was modern and clean, though the sinks behind the bed made for a slightly odd layout. The room safe was included. Pool towels required a 20 Euro deposit, returned when we brought them back. The pool area had plenty of good-quality loungers for the number of guests, and the pools were long enough to swim in. Breakfast was excellent, and the daytime food was good too. We had lunch there once, and the price was reasonable compared with nearby places. The hotel is a short walk from the beach and the main town area. Our room backed onto a neighbouring bar that closes at 1am. On Saturday, music played until then and could still be heard clearly with the windows and doors shut. Also, guests have to leave their room key at reception when going out. That was fine with me, though I hadn’t come across it on holiday before.

The location is great, with lots of shops and restaurants nearby and the beach close too. The staff were very friendly and helped us rent a car and quads for the week. The rooms are modern and spacious, with a big balcony, and were super tidy and clean. Cleaners came every morning; if we were still in the room, they knocked to ask if it was okay to come in and clean, then brought fresh towels. Room service was great and the food delicious. The shower corners could use a good scrub, but that wasn’t a big problem. We enjoyed our stay and would definitely recommend it and come back. The only disappointment was not being able to swim after 8pm, though it made sense because they clean the pools with chemicals every night. You leave the room key at the desk when you go out, which means no more searching through your bags for it.

The pool is a great length for swimming, and we never had trouble finding a couple of loungers. Breakfast was varied and spot on, with nice runny egg yolks. We’re five days into a seven-day break and the position has been superb, with spacious, relaxed bars and excellent restaurants nearby. We’re in a mezzanine suite in the rear block, with plenty of room, and the air-conditioning works well. The room is pretty spartan, though: no full-length mirror, no glasses for brushing your teeth, no pictures on the walls. The pool bar shuts anytime from 4:30pm, and after that there’s nowhere to buy a drink at the hotel or any entertainment. It feels adults-only, which suits us. The place needs a deep clean and the room details sorted out. As things stand, we might not return.

The pool smelled vile and dirty as soon as we arrived, despite the staff seeming friendly at first. On the second night, after torrential rain all night, our apartment flooded. I got out of bed to find inches of water across the whole place. Reception gave us a mop and towels, then left us to clear it ourselves. A couple of hours later, the same staff member accused me of leaving the patio doors open, which wasn’t true. The curtains were only wet about an inch up from the floor. We saw the drains flooding inside the apartment while waiting for the alternative accommodation we had to arrange. Staff working at the complex agreed that it has flooding issues. Reception showed no care or consideration and just tried to shift the blame. Avoid it, zero stars.
