Zakynthos is beautiful and well worth exploring. The boat trips were unforgettable, with turquoise water and breathtaking views. We wouldn’t spend the whole holiday at the hotel, even though it’s lovely, because the island has so much to offer. We had a wonderful vacation. Thank you, Marelen. Hotel Marelen was amazing too. The rooms and shared spaces were lovely and very clean, and the adults-only pool with its jacuzzi was a great place to relax. The staff were wonderful, from the friendly waiters and housekeeping team to the kind receptionists. The food was fantastic. Breakfast had a huge selection, fresh vegetables and fruit, fresh orange juice, and the best scrambled eggs I’ve ever had. Everything was kept spotless and well looked after. Dinner was just as good, with tasty desserts like authentic cheesecakes and sweet mousses, plus something different each day. The hotel is about an hour’s walk from the airport, or 8 minutes by car. A taxi is around €15-20, a bit pricey for such a short trip, but convenient.

Everyone on staff was welcoming, friendly and ready to help. Nothing seemed like too much trouble. We had a wonderful holiday, thanks to them. The location was perfect, and the hotel was beautiful, with spacious rooms and bathrooms and comfortable beds. The food in both the lounge bar and restaurant was excellent.

We’ve just returned from our second visit, and I want to thank everyone at the hotel. The manageress, receptionists and breakfast staff were all lovely. Stavros deserves a special mention for teaching me Greek every day. Thanks too to Costa at the pool bar, the young lady whose name I never learned, and Nico the barman, who I had some great chats with. It’s such a lovely hotel, and I’m already looking forward to coming back in 2027. Shame we have to miss next year. Until then, have a nice break yourselves. See you in 2027.

Marelen was a lovely choice for our honeymoon in Zakynthos. The hotel has a modern Mediterranean feel, and everything was clean. The young staff were energetic, kind and helpful. We enjoyed the fresh food and the nice range of dishes available each day. There’s an adults-only pool where you can really relax, and our room was cleaned daily. The clean, sandy beach is a five-minute walk away, with restaurants and supermarkets about ten minutes on foot. I highly recommend this hotel.

The pool and restaurant area were the only parts we liked. They looked nice, with new furniture and a good atmosphere. The food was average, though, and the beach nearby was dirty and covered in seaweed. That part isn’t the hotel’s fault. Sunbeds and umbrellas cost 15-20 € per set. The online photos are very misleading. The building, reception and rooms are extremely outdated. Our room was gloomy and old, with rusty fixtures, dirty gray towels and an empty, rusty fridge instead of a minibar. The baby cot they provided was torn and had to be replaced. I asked to change rooms, but the alternatives looked just as bad. The kitchen had no cold water or dish towels. This ruined our vacation. We paid 3800 € for 3 adults, and it absolutely wasn’t worth it. I wouldn’t recommend the hotel. I have to admit the photographer did a brilliant job, since the website photos look amazing and nothing like the actual place.
