Guesthouse Monastiri

It’s in a safe area that’s partly built up, a little outside town. Walking in takes a while, especially in very hot weather. With a car, it’s a good hotel for reaching the monasteries and viewpoints across this extraordinary landscape. Otherwise, it’s clean, the staff are friendly and helpful, and breakfast is nice.

The balcony looked out over the Meteores rocks, which was beautiful. The room was really nice, and breakfast was good too, with about half homemade traditional dishes. I’d recommend this hotel.

We liked the spacious, comfortable family apartment (#7) on the ground floor. It was nicely laid out, and the hotel has a pleasant style and a good location. The staff know the area well and were very helpful. The pool was enjoyable, though unsupervised, and it was in the shade from around 5 p.m. Street parking is free. It takes about 15-20 minutes to walk to the start of the nearest monastery hike, and breakfast was decent, as expected. The apartment would be more practical with a second WC. We also ate twice at Taverna Gardenia in Kastraki, a six-minute drive away. The portions were generous, the service very kind, and the food was excellent, including one of the best moussakas we had on our trip. We visited during a two-day stay there.

The view from the room added to the pleasant feel of the stay. It was clean and in a quiet area, just right for relaxing. Breakfast had a delicious range of options, and the welcoming staff were always helpful.
