Villa Fonesei

We filled all five bedrooms as a group of ten, and the three separate spaces at Villa Fonesei meant everyone could spread out. There were plenty of quiet corners to sit and talk or read. The rooms differ in size, so there’s a good chance of finding one that suits your group. Ours was in the single bedroom annex, the largest of the rooms, with a lovely sunset view. The location above Kalami Bay was hard to beat. Some rooms look out over the Ionian Sea towards the hills of Albania at sunrise, and in the evening we could see the sun setting over the bay, with Corfu town in the distance. We spent a fantastic week in the Corfu sun and hope to return someday. We ate out about half the time. For the other evenings, we used the barbecue and its handy covered prep area, which has a fridge. The town has four main restaurants and a recently opened café/restaurant, the Meat Spot, which was one of our favourites. The villa has its own charm and quirks, which we all liked. It isn’t the whitewashed polished-concrete style you see in some places. Its layout worked well for our group. Shopping in town is limited to a few small supermarkets, but they have what you need. We went to Super B, where Eliza and Sotiris were brilliant. They ordered extra meat for our barbecue and, since we didn’t have a car, offered us a lift back with our shopping on the first morning. We used them all week and arranged another delivery of food and water for our last evening. Marcos and his family look after the grounds and help with cleaning. He was friendly and very helpful, and did a great job keeping everything looking perfect. A brilliant villa, and we’d come back without hesitation.
