Daniel Luxury Apartments

It's a spacious apartment with what you need for a comfortable family holiday, and room service came every two days. The pool was nice, but there wasn't much else on site. The local beach is pebbly, though there are lots of other beaches you can drive to. A car is useful, even with good bus service. The nearby supermarket is expensive, so do a big grocery shop in a town. There can be some noise if you're sensitive to it.

We had a superb stay otherwise: the apartments were comfortable and nice, and the staff were friendly. We didn't get to try the pool, though it looked like a good alternative to the local beaches. The building isn't right on the seafront, and the elevator was only available for luggage. We were told that was because of frequent power cuts, and we experienced at least one during our four-day stay.

Kalathos beach worked perfectly for us. It has some sand, though it's coarse, and enough people for a bit of people-watching while still leaving room to find your own spot. There's a lovely cafe with sunbeds for €5 per person and Goa Vibes playing all day, plus a spectacular view. We tried the beaches at Lindos and Faliraki too, but despite their smoother white sand, they were so crowded that we felt like cattle. It depends what you're after. Kalathos itself is quiet, but Lindos is only 3.5 km away, a beautiful traditional town worth seeing by day or night. There's a big supermarket about an eight-minute walk from the apartments, with everything for your stay. We found the buses perfectly adequate, so we didn't need to hire a car, and walking to the shops felt like part of the holiday. The road may be quiet at night, but traffic is constant during the day. We were glad to have a sea-facing apartment at the back of the building, since we wouldn't have enjoyed the noise, view, and pollution from the front balconies. We spent two relaxing weeks here. The flats are private and well equipped, the pool is a good size for the number of guests, and the attentive, friendly staff did what they could to make everything go smoothly. The apartments were great value, with a beach about a ten-minute walk away. Our rooms were cleaned every two days, which we hadn't expected. The only slight downside was the cooking gear. The kitchen itself was excellent, with an oven, four hobs, a microwave, a large fridge-freezer, and a double sink, but there wasn't much cookware. As vegetarians who like to cook on holiday, we had to juggle what we had. There was a good oven, for example, but no oven dishes. There was no bar or snack service during our stay, though it looked as if one might be planned or perhaps was closed because we came out of season. We wanted somewhere peaceful, with a few local amenities and a busier hub nearby, and this was just right. We couldn't believe how good the quality was for what we paid. Stergos, the owner, is the best! The staff were friendly, the place was very clean, and everything is new and works perfectly. It's only a few metres from one of the island's best beaches, and the prices are great. An ideal base for exploring southern Rhodes.
