Kalavrita Krinides Deluxe Apartment

Our host was kind, straightforward, and happy to suggest things to do nearby, which helped us feel at home. We had a fantastic stay in the attic at Kalavrita Krinides Apartments. It was spotless, warm, and atmospheric, with a comfortable bed and all the amenities we needed. The windows looked out onto a magical mountain view, and the fireplace added a special warmth. We’ll be back.

For the 90€ we paid, this particular room was far too much, and I wouldn't recommend it. Ours was an attic on the third floor, reached by stairs. We were met with cold on arrival, and the radiator was shared among three attics. There were spiders in the light fixtures and dust behind the bed. The mismatched bedside tables didn't go with the lampshade, one of which had broken glass, and the mirror was filthy. The TV was tiny, and the little room that was supposed to be a kitchenette had walls that looked ready to fall down. For a proper hot bath, we had to wait over five minutes for the water to heat up.

We had a large, very clean apartment, and the owner was kind and extremely helpful. The place is close enough to the center of Kalavrita that we mostly got around on foot. We were two couples with a baby, visiting over the March 25th weekend. The house stayed very warm, there was always hot water, which matters a lot with small children, and wood was provided for the fireplace. When we visit Kalavrita again, we'll choose the same place.

The people were very kind, but that doesn't make up for the room, and I wouldn't stay again even for free. We paid 400+€ for four nights, more than 100€ a night, and it was one of the worst stays of my life. The attic was awkward to use, and I kept hitting my head on the beams. It was on the third floor with no elevator, 54 steps up. The location was fairly good, though on the uphill side of the village, and Kalavryta is small enough that you're near the center in five minutes wherever you stay. The bed was awful. I woke up every couple of hours for all four nights because it felt like I was being grabbed. The mattress felt fake, sank so much at the edge you could fall off, but was rock hard in the middle and made you feel every bump. There were cobwebs on the headboard. The room had no mirror, the bathroom had broken lights, a shaky sink that seemed ready to fall, and a tilted mirror shelf that dropped anything placed on it. Its faucet wobbled and lacked the switch for changing flow between the faucet and shower head. The bathroom had no window, even though the room was on a corner, and it had been made in the room's corner with plasterboard. The fridge was plugged in but didn't work, and there was black mold inside with a rotten smell. The hot water could suddenly go from scalding to freezing for a few seconds. Heating was available, but the thermostat was outside the room and shared by three apartments on the floor. We had to unlock the door to adjust it, and for four days we argued over who got to change it as the temperature shifted. The electrical outlets were so inconvenient that we had to try them one by one to find one that would take a phone charger. There was no soundproofing. People coming and going on the floor woke us, and we could hear the next room's conversations as if there were no wall or door. The neighbors got up at seven and talked on their phones using hands-free, so we heard everything. The place is a slaughterhouse, stop by for milking. Far away!
