Roses Studios

The rooms are basic and clean, and the area near the top of Pigadia is very quiet. Room number 5, if you’re lucky enough to get it, has the balcony shown in the photo, with a full view of Pigadia and the harbor. From the taxi station square, where there’s also a supermarket, you can reach the studios by climbing a steep set of stairs. You need to be fit, or take it slowly. With a car, you can park easily along the road above the studios and get there without effort. Rose and her son Mike are very kind and ready to help if needed. It was a pleasure talking with them about life in Pigadia and their own story. If I return to Karpathos, this will be my preferred choice.

We loved our week at Roses Studios, especially the very clean, comfortable room and its amazing view over the bay. It had a private balcony, an en suite bathroom, a small pantry, and a TV. Our hosts were friendly and welcoming, and generously shared their really interesting life story. We’ll definitely return to beautiful Karpathos and Roses Studios!

We had no water for three days because the owner didn’t have enough water tanks for all the rooms. The door wouldn’t close properly, and the room needs renovation. In Karpathos, the water is commonly cut every day in summer, so everyone has a water tank. The owner told us this was the first time it had happened, in August, and that there was nothing he could do. But after we spoke with the neighbors, who were watering their plants while we had no water for the toilet or shower, he admitted this is common. By then he was fed up.

I got a modest room during the off season. Its sliding door was so noisy that it made me worry about disturbing the other guests. The man was helpful, while Rose seemed a bit grumpy and couldn’t smile. Still, staying in the capital is the worst part of being in Karpathos, though it’s necessary when you have a boat.
