The only good thing was the friendly staff. I spend about 100 nights a year in hotels, and this one is right at the bottom for me. It was massively overpriced, with old, dirty rooms, and the showers were in tubs rather than proper showers. Breakfast was terrible quality, and there was an extra charge to use the spa.

The serving staff were friendly and helpful, but for the number of stars, we expected far more. The breakfast felt like a 3-star buffet, with fresh orange juice as the one bright spot. Our room was a decent size but dated. The two single beds pushed together had no topper and were lumpy. The narrow bath had no plug, and the shower curtain didn’t cover its full length. Noise carried badly throughout the hotel, and the rooms were nowhere near soundproof. There were no tea or coffee facilities, and the AC only offered heat or nothing.

We spent 12 days here, and it’s an amazing place, with a beautiful location and very large rooms. Breakfast had just about everything you could want. A couple of small things could be better. There’s no decaf coffee on hand, and when you ask for it, whether it arrives seems to depend on the server. I gave up after 3 days. The evening and night receptionists also seemed poorly informed about the hotel’s services, and we got different answers several times.

In my 35 years of traveling around the world, this was my worst hotel experience. I chose it because it claims to be 5 stars, but it didn’t even feel close to a 3-star standard. I was in a junior suite, and the bathroom had just one face towel and no body towels. The staff’s attitude was the most disappointing part. At 6:55 a.m. I went to the breakfast area, which was due to open at 7:00. The head of staff rudely told me to leave because breakfast hadn’t started, even though it was only five minutes away. That was unacceptable service for a hotel calling itself 5 stars. I felt treated very poorly and unprofessionally, and definitely wouldn’t recommend it.

Theoxenia Palace really has the qualities to earn its 5 stars and then some. It’s been a long time since I stayed at a true 5-star hotel that lives up to every star. The building is amazing and well maintained, with lots of services, including a gym, spa, and both outdoor and indoor pools. The service is excellent, all in keeping with the style of the Kifissias district.
