Liakas Village

The staff were fantastic, professional, helpful, polite and friendly. Breakfast by the pool each morning was a real bonus for a self-catering apartment, and the pool itself was superb and spotlessly clean. We had a top-floor apartment with spectacular views. It was spacious, modern and clean, and had everything we needed. The air conditioning in the lounge and bedroom worked perfectly and was pretty quiet. The location is quite remote, so a car is pretty much essential, but with one it's well placed for exploring the island. A couple of small things could be better. The Wi-Fi was patchy for streaming, though fine for web browsing, email and social media. YouTube just about worked in the living room, but the signal died in the bedroom. The living-room TV also struggled to get a signal on local free-to-air channels. Some kind of satellite or Sky TV setup would improve that. I am nitpicking, though. Kefalonia is a wonderful island, and we wouldn't be disappointed staying at Liakas Apartments again. If we return, this is where we'll stay.

Check-in happens at the bar and restaurant rather than at a reception. They gave us the apartment keys and showed us where it was. Inside, it was nice and clean, with fresh white sheets and towels ready for us. The kitchen had useful basics like glasses, mugs, bowls, plates, cutlery and even a citrus squeezer. There were two air conditioners, one in the living room and one in the bedroom, both with timers. Storage included a good-sized wardrobe and a large cupboard, plus a medium-sized mirror, a table for toiletries, a hairdryer and a safe. The shower was a stand-up one, with no bathtub. Breakfast included fried or boiled eggs, bacon, sausages, cereal and milk, fruit, Greek yogurt, bruschetta, mini pancakes, cold cuts, juice, tea, coffee and water. You could also buy food at the bar during the day. I had a tuna salad, and it was absolutely delicious. The pool was clean and nice for cooling off after time in the sun. The view was natural and pleasant, and the area was quiet, good for families or couples. It's a bit remote, so I'd recommend having a car. The nearest shops are about a five-minute drive away.

Our spacious studio had a lovely balcony view, and the pool was very good. You could order pretty much any food or drink you wanted during the day. Breakfast was solid, and when something wasn't as expected, the staff sorted it out straight away. We stayed a week and found the place just right for us. We loved the personal touch from the mother, daughter and son who run it. Would recommend!

There were ants everywhere. On the first night, my son woke in the middle of the night scared because his sofa bed was covered in ants. We ended up cleaning the apartment at night and trying to calm the kids. The next day we were told the whole premises had ants, including the kitchen where breakfast is served. A cleaning crew came and sprayed wasp spray on the floor. When I raised the problem and the bad smell in the bathroom with the woman acting as manager, she was leaving as she replied, "I don't care."
