Bristol Hotel & Apartments

Bristol Apartments gets the price and location balance just right. The kitchen in the studio-style room covered our basic needs. The bathroom curtain kept sticking to me all over while I showered, which made for a very awkward experience. 🙃

The location was just perfect, and the host was really nice. I was unsure about booking after reading some reviews, but I ended up enjoying my stay. It's not a luxurious hotel, and it could use some renovation, but it has everything you might need. I'd stay here again 🙂

The staff were welcoming and easy to reach, and there are plenty of restaurants and supermarkets just a few minutes away. The location is close to the city centre. Our beds were really comfortable, and the full-size fridge and kitchen worked well for a longer stay. The new AC was powerful, quiet, and clean. There’s no sound insulation, though. The walls and doors are so thin you can hear everything, especially in the hallway. The bathroom could use some renovation, particularly the shower.

I was shocked by how dirty the place was. The shower tray and the area around the kitchen sink had ingrained dirt, just like in the photos, and it gave the impression that very little cleaning was being done. I was glad I had beach shoes to wear in the shower. The toilet seat was in bad shape, and a replacement costs only about €7. The room smelled strongly of cigarettes, as if someone had been smoking day and night with the windows shut. Even the filthy blanket in the wardrobe reeked of smoke. I slept in my Irish winter clothes under the two thin sheets. After showering, I used the soaked towel mat to clean the filthy bedroom floor. I was relieved to have stayed only two nights. Each morning I left at dawn and stayed out as long as I could. I was in room 109, right beside the very noisy lift. The cupboard door above the sink bangs into the very wobbly wall-mounted TV and looks ready to fall. The mirror between the bathroom and patio doors also seems loose, and shifts whenever you open or close the curtains or patio door. All the doors had chunks missing, as if they’d been kicked in at some point. They should at least be replaced. For this standard, even €31.50 per guest per night was too much. It may be an economical place, but it badly needs a deep clean. I’m more annoyed with myself for not paying extra to stay somewhere more comfortable. A bottle of bleach poured over the shower tray after each guest would help, and it’s cheap to buy. Leaving the windows open to air the room would help too. One morning, I could hear a female guest next door sneeze as if she were right beside me. The place needs work.
