Lakitira Suites

We stayed for a week in September 2019. The beach was beautiful and clean, and the staff were very friendly. As a vegetarian I found the evening choices a bit limited, but the salads were so good that I was happy with them. The apartments were large, beds comfortable, though the rooms were a little dated. Cleaning was good, and despite the size of the complex we found quiet corners. Ask reception for a map. There’s a lovely bar called Ruby in the newer 83-room complex, with a nicer atmosphere and music, though that’s personal taste. I really appreciated the hotel getting so many cats on the property neutered. That’s a huge achievement. They’re being cared for, so please keep it up and get more done. I’d return just for that. You can rent bikes from the car park, or walk to Kardema, which took us 40 minutes. I like an early coffee, but the coffee and sugar in my room were never replenished, so I bought my own. A small thing, and I wasn’t sure whether they were meant to be topped up. I felt Italian guests got a better deal than Tui travelers. The Italian information included Greek phrases like hello and thank you, plus details about the island and local food. The Tui information focused only on trips, with no local history or culture. The car hire attached to the hotel was excellent, and they carefully showed us the car and where to go. Kos town made a nice evening out. Zia is worth seeing at sunset. I also visited Plaka for the cat sanctuary and peacocks, and Steflos is worth a swim to the island.

I usually want to see somewhere different each time I travel, so I’m surprised to be unsure about leaving this place behind. I hate resorts, but we had such fun here with all the little sailing boats on the beach. The food was lovely, the beach was great, and the staff were friendly.

The shoreline is only about two minutes away, and the beach was fine. For a nicer stretch, you can walk west along the shore for 10 minutes. Kardamena is roughly 40 minutes on foot. The local bus there costs 1.8 euros per person one way, which seemed expensive when you can rent a car in Kardamena for 25 euros a day. The food was great, but drinks with dinner cost too much. A 500 ml draught Mythos beer was 4.5 euros.

The kids loved the pool, and our room stayed clean and cool. Great hotel, with friendly staff and excellent food.
