Aegeon Hotel

This is about the beachfront restaurant at the front of the hotel, which calls itself a restaurant. The menu has tempting, creative dishes, but the kitchen seems not to have read it. It describes homemade rustic bread, yet we got nasty sliced white bread. We ordered two meals, but one arrived 10 minutes after the other. The food was inedible, and when we explained the problems after being asked if everything was alright, the waiter apologized and then charged us the full amount. The food was probably the worst and most expensive on Koufonissi. The bathrooms were disgusting too, with a filthy old towel hanging from an empty paper towel dispenser.

The shower was small and uncomfortable, and the bathroom felt too cramped for a boutique hotel. Elisabeth at reception was the best part of the hotel, cheerful, lovely, and always ready to help.

Our experience was the worst in all Greece. The hotel in reality looked very different from the Internet photos. Our room was dark, noisy, badly neglected, and had numerous damages. It also wasn't cleaned daily. Additionally, the owner offered me 20 eur to cancel the Booking App reservation and save the commission payment if I agreed to write a good review. Of course, I refused.

We found another hotel and left because the rooms weren’t suitable for us and our baby. We didn’t want to use chemical or plug-in repellents, and this hotel had no screens. One room’s aircon didn’t work; in the other, the toilet was broken and leaking, and the shower door was missing. Both rooms had mosquitoes, and there was literally blood on the bathroom walls. The manager was extremely unreasonable. After several negotiations, we agreed she’d refund the remaining two unused nights if she managed to rent our old room. We came back a few times and clearly saw it was occupied, but she reneged and acted as if we’d never discussed it. We’d explained the rooms weren’t suitable on the day we checked in. After speaking to a few locals, we heard the owners were apparently bankrupt and on borrowed time. We also heard the bank had seized the property, which had since been sold, and that the new owner let them keep operating for another year to recover money toward debts and basically stop them from going to jail. That would explain their way of operating and complete lack of ethics and morals. The rooms are overpriced and need serious maintenance. Management are dishonest, bankrupt, and have zero business integrity. Avoid at all costs, don’t book this hotel, go elsewhere.
