This was our third trip to Kefalonia. We chose this remote area on purpose and booked Villa #1 (sea view) directly with the property for 7 nights (€900). I was honestly surprised by how positive many other reviews are. I really hope we weren't deliberately given the worst villa because we booked direct, perhaps on the assumption that we couldn't review on platforms like Booking.com or use credit card protections. The host did respond commendably to immediate problems, but the property's basic quality and safety were far below what the price suggests. We wouldn't return. The location is a real plus, just a 2-minute walk from a beautiful little cove. We were welcomed with lemonade and a bottle of wine in the fridge, and there were coffee pods, sugar, milk and single-use bathroom toiletries: shampoo, conditioner, body wash and lotion. When we reported a faulty TV and a completely broken AC in the master bedroom, management immediately replaced both with brand new units. They also brought us salt when we asked. The shower temperature was a serious safety problem. It stayed lukewarm for several minutes, then suddenly turned boiling hot and burned us. On our last day, we spotted old blood stains washed into the foot of the bedsheets. We panicked and checked for bed bugs, but luckily there were none. It was likely from a previous guest scratching mosquito bites, but stained sheets shouldn't be kept in use. We were told towels would be changed every 3 days. They were changed on day 3 but not day 6, so we had no fresh towels for our final shower before checkout. Small face or hand towels were missing for the first days too. Inside the shower, there is no real flooring, just washable paint that's actively peeling and flaking. The bathroom doors don't lock, and the windows aren't fully frosted for privacy. The private pool is a very basic, cheap setup, with a drop-in hydro-jet filter hanging over the wall. It runs 24/7, and our pool light was blown out, but the filter isn't powerful enough to clean the water. There were bugs in it constantly, so we preferred walking to the nearby cove. There were plenty of mosquitoes around. The plug-in repellents provided were completely empty and useless, so we had to sleep covered in bug spray. Unlike most Greek villas, there was no olive oil. There's a small BBQ but no charcoal or firestarters. We bought those things, along with salt, and left them for the next guests. There was space for a washing machine but no machine. Laundry service costs €20, which is overpriced, though thankfully the master bathroom sink is big enough to handwash clothes.

The sea is close, and the bigger towns and restaurants are easy to reach. A great spot for a family with kids to relax.

The personal service from Antigone and Nick was unlike anything I’ve experienced. I could text Antigone as late as 10 PM and she’d still help make arrangements. Nick is a fantastic cook who can bring meals to your villa or put together a special dinner or evening event around the resort. He also works with you on dietary needs and suggests alternatives to get a dish close to what you like. And he makes a great negroni. Our family of six, with four teenagers, stayed in Villa No.4. It had loads of space, a good sized private pool, and was perfectly placed. We played plenty of games in the pool together. The photos don’t really capture how beautiful the place is. Kymata Bohemian Beach Resort KBBR feels unlike a typical big hotel: there are only a few guests, the communal pool is shared with just a handful of people, and you can call the restaurant to have food brought over. At the bar, we could request a drink on WhatsApp and it would show up. The villas have their own pools, panoramic sea views and grounds, all in a lovely setting. The service feels very personal without any fuss. KBBR sits on the island’s southwest coast, a few metres from the sea and 12 minutes from Lixouri. Its position gives you uninterrupted sunrises and sunsets. There’s a private beach reached via the communal pool area, ideal for snorkeling and swimming. Turtle Tours with Andy is 20 minutes away, Vatsa Beach Restaurant & Club with Valentina is five minutes away, and Myrtos Beach is a 45 minute drive. Antigone and Nick, a brother and sister team, manage the place and clearly know how to look after guests.

Antigone was wonderful and the service was excellent. We arranged a meat dinner for Saturday. We booked the villa over the phone with her, and found it in an excellent location when we arrived. The apartment had everything we needed except a washing machine, though laundry service is available. When one air conditioner wasn’t working, they dealt with it straight away and installed a new unit in one of the rooms. Highly recommended.

The villa was lovely, the view was excellent, and the price was very reasonable. Antigone was responsive and helpful throughout, and it was a nice touch to find a bottle of wine in the fridge on arrival. You’ll want a car, since there’s really nothing within walking distance. I had a splendid stay, though a few small inconveniences kept it from being five stars.
