City Green Hotel

It’s quite close to local bars and restaurants, which is the only positive I can mention. Our room wasn’t cleaned at all during the week; the dust and dirt on the floor when we arrived were still there when we left. The food wasn’t great and the staff weren’t helpful. I won’t stay at this hotel again.

The staff were the best part: very helpful and quick with formalities. Several people speak Polish, including Mrs. Bogusia, who gave advice about places to go, sights to see, bus travel and much more. Someone at reception and someone at the bar also speak Polish. That makes this hotel a good choice for Polish guests who aren’t very fluent in English or haven’t travelled abroad much. Our room was spacious and clean, with no complaints about its general standard. The bathroom was medium sized, though bigger people may find it hard to move around or change clothes. The sink was large, but the shower tray edge was so low that you had to watch the water flow. There was air conditioning, a balcony with chairs and a table, two large mirrors, a tea set with electric kettle, oddly plugged in inside the closet, and a fridge that collected a little water. The hotel is not too far from the beach or bus stops. Food was okay, often quite good or even delicious, but the choice was the issue. Breakfast was the most limited: sandwich ingredients, cereal, dried fruit, pancakes, beans and bacon were available, but for vegans or lactose-free guests it could get monotonous, with mostly fruit, bread and raw vegetables. Lunch and dinner were more satisfying and changed more often. There was lots of meat as well as vegetable dishes, though sometimes one outweighed the other. Friday Greek night was a big plus, with a delicious feast. I also liked events such as saxophone music at the bar.

We had a fantastic holiday at City Green and felt it was good value for money. The staff were friendly and helpful throughout. Our rooms were small, but very clean and well maintained, with daily room service and no shortage of fresh towels. The hotel was tidy and well presented, with air conditioning in the rooms and reception. There were two pools and enough sunbeds for most people, without anyone racing to claim them. The pool at the back was colder than the main one. The main pool bar served daytime snacks, including ice cream, and stayed open quite late, although all-inclusive service stops at 1pm. In the evening, a few more tables and chairs would have been useful, and some sunbeds could be moved. The bar staff were fantastic. George, Paulina and Manos kept smiling and joking with us, and helped make the holiday enjoyable. Restaurant staff were polite and helpful, with enough tables even when busy. Nobody could complain about the food: there was a good selection that changed at lunch and dinner, and the desserts were fantastic 😍. The all-inclusive drinks were standard and drinkable, though not amazing. Named-brand drinks were available for an upgrade, but didn’t seem worth the price. Shops, cafes, restaurants and bars are a few minutes’ walk away, with the beach a little farther. Friday was BBQ night by the pool, with traditional Cretian dancing that we enjoyed. We were very happy with our experience and would highly recommend booking.

The hotel made a great base for exploring the island, and we’d definitely return. Before arriving, I’d read reviews that made me a little worried, but it turned out to be a lovely adults-only hotel in a great spot near Hersonissos’s main street and seafront. The rooms were clean and tidy, with comfortable beds. The bathroom was a bit small, but adequate. Staff were friendly and helpful, and had set out some food for us because we were arriving late at night, which was a lovely touch. The food and drinks were pretty good, though we also ate out to try Greek restaurants. We had a brilliant stay.
