Krits Hotel

I wouldn't spend a vacation here if I wanted my time and money to feel worthwhile. The food was very poor: meals seemed to come from a delivery service, the meat was dry and hard to swallow, the rice was nearly raw, and there wasn't much choice. My room also wasn't cleaned during my first two days, and there was no toilet brush. When I mentioned it, I got the rude response, “This is an economic Hotel.” The staff were unfriendly, and dining was horrible. This was my experience in September 2023.

I had such a wonderful holiday, and the quiet setting was a big part of it. Hotel Krits is only a 10-15 minute walk from the center of Hersonissos, but it feels peaceful compared with staying in the center. There are a few nice nearby beaches for adults and children. The spacious apartments have pleasant sea views, and there is a garden with a bar and pool out front. I especially remember barman Nikos, who was so kind and shared lots about Crete, its people and customs. Maria at reception was lovely too. I warmly recommend this hotel.

We could check out after 11:00 without paying extra, which was a nice touch. Breakfast was fine at first, but after a week it felt repetitive. A bit more variety, like changing the fruit every other day or serving eggs baked or scrambled as well as boiled, would help. Our first room had a broken shower that flooded the room, but they moved us to a larger room with an even better sea view, so the issue was handled well. The hotel is close to everything we needed, the staff were friendly and helpful, and our room was clean and serviced daily with fresh sheets and towels.

The food was horrible and hygiene seemed very bad. It felt like food was being kept from guests and given to staff, and the cook secretly had alcohol in his coffee. When we arrived, nobody offered customer service or help with our suitcases, and we were left to carry them upstairs ourselves. The only person on duty was the receptionist, who gave us no information. The rooms were very hot, the air conditioning was off, and we couldn't find the remotes. There were no pillows for the kids, only hard cots with no mattresses. The phones didn't work, and when we went down, reception had closed and nobody was there. The place felt dead. I'd never go back, and I have a lot more to say about this hotel.
