Konstantina really looked after me during my wonderful five-night stay at Lilo's appartments. The apartment was spotless and spacious, set in a beautiful garden just 50 metres from Livadia beach. The kitchen had everything I needed for a relaxing stay on Astypalea.

We were there right at the end of the season, and with Gerani next door there was still a good tavern open. The steep road up to the Chora takes about five minutes by scooter, or around 15 minutes on foot, giving you the full choice of places to go. Petros, Konstantinas dad, keeps a beautiful vegetable garden, with flowers and pergolas where you can read or eat a home-cooked meal. Being able to retreat to that must be invaluable in high season. The hosts are wonderful, and the garden is tranquil, with a nice beach only 50 metres away.

The garden is surely the greenest place on Astypalia, with room to sit together or relax on your own. Lilo is from Germany, so she and her daughter Konstantina speak fluent German, Greek, and of course English. They're mindful and polite, always ready with helpful advice, and we even got a glass of homemade organic fig marmalade. Lilo, Konstantina, and her husband Petros welcome everyone, whether you're travelling alone, as a couple, or with family. Lilo's is my second home. The rooms are cute, comfortable, and very clean, less than a minute from the beach. It's easy to park nearby, and there's a shop between the beach and Lilo's for everyday things. The beach restaurants in Livadi serve tasty food at good prices.
