Sarris House is a wonderful memory for me. I spent a week there, with the Cretan air and the crickets making it easy to forget everyday worries. Anastasio's garden had the best tomatoes I’ve ever eaten, and herbs grew in pots and planters along the terraces and stairs. The rustic house has plenty of spots to sit and unwind, a kind of charm that’s hard to come by now. Set among olive groves and vineyards on Crete’s north west coast, it feels peacefully removed from the tourist strip, while still being close to the scenery, Chania’s old town, mountains, and beaches.

The house made a great base for exploring Crete. Chania, Balos beach, Gramvoussa Island and other places were within reach, and the nearest beach was under ten minutes away by car. It was nice and uncrowded. The road is easy to drive, though a bit narrow, and the locals drive slowly and calmly. You’ll need a rental car to get around, as you do in most parts of the island. We also enjoyed staying in for a whole day, with the pool, air conditioning, grill, and wood ovens to use. Finding wood to buy wasn’t easy for us. The host was lovely and had local olive oil, raki, and fresh garden vegetables waiting when we arrived. The surroundings were peaceful and beautiful, with lovely views and strong sunsets from the terrace by the main entrance. The house is comfortable and suits families or groups. We found it on AirBnB and stayed a week. We had a really positive time and hope to return soon.

The garden had fresh herbs, walnuts, and pomegranates, and the kitchen was well equipped. It’s a magical Greek house in a peaceful neighborhood, a wonderful holiday stay that’s easy to recommend.

The traditional spaces made for a comfortable stay, and the service was excellent. The village is lovely and traditional, right in the centre, with the sea only five minutes away by car.
