Danelis Studios and Apartments

The rooms are basic, which matches the price, but they had what we needed: soap, shower gel, a hairdryer, and a well equipped kitchen with a kettle, toaster, pots, pans, washing up liquid, and a scouring pad. The people running the hotel were great and always accommodating. Danelis hotel is a peaceful spot, away from the busy strip but about five minutes on foot from the main street and a little farther from the lovely old town. We felt secure and it was quiet at night. We’ve just returned from a week here and will definitely come back. We enjoyed the food at the hotel, and would recommend Queen just up the road, Milos, Zorbas, and Nostimo in the old town, plus Mr Dish and Ilios. For drinks we went to Original, Epsilon Alcoholic Church, Gianni's, Kipouli, and Galaxy.

The pool area was lovely, with plenty of sunbeds and chilled music playing through much of the day. It’s about a 10-minute walk to the old village of Malia and 20 minutes along Malia strip to the beach. There are the usual Greek restaurants and lovely hospitality from the local people. We went with bed and breakfast, and the food was delicious every time. Great atmosphere too, and we met lots of lovely people at the complex. My husband and I spent 10 days at Danelis on our first trip to Crete, and we absolutely loved it. We arrived really late after a big airport mix-up, but that was the only hiccup. There was nothing negative about the hotel or the brilliant family who run it, set back from Malia town. If you want a relaxed, stress-free holiday, this is the place. We already miss it and will definitely return. A big thank you to Mahis, Niko, Anna or Yanna, I’m not sure of the pronunciation, Maria, Mamma, and Papa. Beautiful people.

Four friends and I stayed here last August and had an amazing time. The owners greeted us, joked around with us every day, and treated everyone like family. We felt really safe, and the food and drinks were great. The other guests were super friendly too. It’s a 10-minute walk to the strip, close to the old town, and there’s a corner shop nearby. I’d definitely book this hotel again if I return.

We had a lovely 10-night bed and breakfast stay. The family who run the hotel are lovely and do all they can to help. The rooms are a good size, and there are plenty of sunbeds by the pool. Wi-Fi is free, but the safe and air conditioning cost just under €100. The holiday tax is €2 per night. The transfer bus takes 1.5 hours, while a taxi costs €55 and gets you here in 25 minutes. Our transfer dropped us on the main road and pointed us toward the hotel, although others were dropped off at the hotel. I’ll take that up with easyJet. Would I come back? Definitely.
