Frixos Hotel

This isn't a five-star hotel, but for the price I can't fault it. I was a bit nervous after reading the reviews, though when we arrived I realized they clearly came from people with very high standards for a cheap holiday. The staff were lovely and even taught me a lot of Greek. There were more than enough utensils for cooking and drinks, the pool was clean, and we got fresh towels every day. The location was perfect for walking to the strip and into old town, with everything close by.

Frixos Hotel is great if you're after a lively party atmosphere, though it still has the warm, welcoming feel of a family-owned place. The room was clean, comfortable, and well kept, and Beach Road is within walking distance. There's a pool with sunbeds, a bar serving great drinks, and pool tables for a bit of fun. The atmosphere stays upbeat and social, so it's easy to meet people. The people running the hotel were the real highlight. Maria was awesome, helpful, and full of positive energy, and Frixos and George were just as lovely. Everyone was friendly and fun, and made us feel like part of the family from the moment we arrived. I'd highly recommend Frixos Hotel if you're visiting Malia. Whether you're there for summer parties or just want to relax and enjoy the hospitality, you'll have a great time!

I wouldn't recommend this place. My girlfriend and I stayed here, and the towels for the room were changed infrequently, every two days. At one point we felt we'd had the same towel each for about three days. When I asked for fresh ones, I was told to wait until the next day. The only towels in our room were for showering, with none for handwashing or the bathroom floor. Those would've been useful because the shower regularly sprayed water onto the floor, leaving it slippery. There was usually nobody at reception, and there was no TUI rep on site either, even though TUI was the company we booked our package holiday with. A rep would've been the link with the hotel to help with our needs and check how the booking and stay were going. The experience was disappointing. We didn't get the room we expected from the booking and photos, so we felt catfished, so to speak. It was very basic and had what we needed, but it was too small. We were told breakfast was included and expected an English breakfast, but it was continental, which didn't suit us at times. The beds were comfortable, at least.

The family who run frixos Hotel and apartments are so welcoming, and that really adds to the stay. We first came nine months ago, and this was our second visit. We’re already planning to return. Restaurants, bars, clubs, and the beach are all an easy walk away. I’d happily recommend it 😎
