Selena View Hotel & Apartments

It felt like home. Thanks for such an amazing stay, this place was the best!

The best part was the people: Maria, her father, and Alexander were so warm and welcoming, and always ready to help or give advice. It’s a lovely family-run hotel, cozy and clean, though the furniture and TV aren’t brand new. Each room has a kitchen with a stove, dishes, a fridge, and a balcony. The location is great: close to Malia’s old center, with a shop and a few cafes nearby. The free parking lot opposite is handy if you rent a car, which is really useful on Crete. The main bar street is less than a 10-minute walk away, while the noisy party crowds don’t seem to make it to Selena. The nearest beach is about a 15-minute walk, and Potamos Beach is about 30 minutes away. Air conditioning and a safe cost extra, which is normal practice on Crete.

The people here were what we loved most. Maria, who speaks English, and her assistant Alexander, a Russian-speaking Serb, welcomed us like family with orange juice and grapes, introduced us to their parents, and were always glad to chat, offer treats, or help with questions. We fell in love with this family. The room was very spacious and had what we needed, just like in the online photos. The kitchenware, bedding, and other sets were from IKEA and stocked for three people. There was a good hair dryer. Bring paper napkins, a cloth for wiping the kitchen table, and dish soap. Towels were changed and the room cleaned daily, but we didn’t need the floor washed twice a day, so we declined that. A friendly young Greek woman did the cleaning. The sheets were changed twice during our 7 nights. Wi-Fi was free, and we watched movies on a tablet in the evenings. On the balcony there was a table, two chairs, a drying rack, and an ashtray. The hotel is at the edge of the old town. Turn west from its street and the pretty lanes lead to the old square by the church. We didn’t find Malia outside the old town as interesting, it felt more everyday. There’s a free parking lot opposite Selena View, which we really appreciated as a safe place for the car.

The rooms and grounds were incredibly clean. Even the dishes looked so spotless, it felt like I was the first person to cook there. A big thank you to Maria, her dad, Alexander, and everyone at Selena View for such a warm, kind stay!
