We liked the clean room, and the couch could be used as another twin bed. It had a fridge, coffee maker, and a snack package, with some pretty good restaurants within walking distance. Micheal was really sweet and helpful, and carried our bags upstairs. The water temperature was hard to manage, though, swinging from cold to very hot. Our airport pickup was delayed by almost 30 minutes after we landed, even though we’d provided our flight details and arrival time. The first night wasn’t bad, but the next morning was stressful. Georgia was meant to pick us up and didn’t show. I started messaging about 15 minutes before pickup, but she didn’t reply, even after reading my messages more than an hour later. We were lucky to find a passing taxi. A neighbor leaving for work seemed to think this was a pretty common thing.

The room itself was cute, and the location was a reasonable distance from the airport, with a nice coffee shop nearby. But travelers should know this feels more like an Airbnb than an inn, with nobody on site to help. Our flight was delayed, so we arrived late, and there was no information about how to get into the room. The proprietor didn’t respond while we were trying to check in, which was scary. Another guest kindly helped after we had to wake them up. We’d also been told a transfer to and from the airport would be arranged, but neither ride arrived, so we had to hail a cab twice. The sofa bed was broken, and our son had a terrible night’s sleep.

Markopoulou is a regular stop for people arriving at or leaving from Athens airport. This little inn is clean, affordable, and well equipped with what you need. Bars and restaurants are nearby, and the airport is about 10 minutes away.

I was picked up by Georgia close to midnight on a weekend after arriving from Kalamata by bus and Metro. She helped me figure out which one to take so I’d get near her place. The next morning I needed an early ride to the airport, and she took me there too. I didn’t have time to explore the balcony or the area, but it was just right for a short stay near the airport. The room had lots of thoughtful little touches, including charging adapters for visitors from other countries, toiletries, water, snacks, and a coffee and tea station. There was also AC and a TV, if that matters to you.

The apartments were clean, quiet, and well maintained, and the host was quick to reply with helpful instructions. It’s close to the airport, with a KTEL bus running to and from there every 30-60 minutes or so, though I’m not sure about at night.
