EmGard Suites Kythnos

Leaving honestly brought a tear to my eye. The whole team was so warm and helpful, especially Yannis the manager, Katerina in the kitchen, whose breakfasts were sensational, and Thanasis. Housekeeping was brilliant and the rooms were spotless. The room service was delicious too, especially the salads and burgers. There’s a quiet pool, a superb view, and loads of comfort and warmth. For luxury on the island, I can’t recommend this place enough.

After a long email exchange about availability, we finally confirmed a room and received a confirmation. We’d asked about a room for two until the 17th, and they replied, “no we don’t have availability for 5 ppl to the 28”. An hour later, after we’d booked ferries and stays on other islands around this room, they cancelled. When we called, we learned the room had never been removed from the website, and someone else had booked it online. We were left without a room and had three other island bookings to change. They didn’t even apologize. In 40 years of going to Greece, this was my worst booking experience. If this is how reservations are handled, I can’t imagine the service at the hotel.

Mr Giannis helped us from the first day, sharing all the information we needed for trips around the island. The staff were polite and helpful, and the rooms were lovely, very clean, and serviced daily. With its sweeping views and elegant, luxurious feel, this place is a real jewel. To me, it should be the standard place to stay in Kythnos. It’s iconic.

We loved having a large outdoor sitting area, lots of storage, and a kitchenette stocked with dishes and silverware. The suite worked perfectly for two, with a comfortable bed, sitting area, and an updated, nicely furnished bathroom. Housekeeping was exceptional, and Yiannis and the team were top of the line. He came by to talk with guests each morning at breakfast and help with advice or anything we needed. Merichas has plenty of lovely waterside tavernas for dinner, and since the island’s main roads run through the port town, it’s easy to drive out to beaches and villages. We stayed five nights at EmGard Suites Kythnos while exploring the island, and highly recommend it.
