The waiter’s comment felt offensive. I’m still not sure whether he meant it as a joke, but it came across as completely tactless. We were hiking nearby and had wanted to try the restaurant, though I expected we might be turned away because of the dress code. Fine dining with set menus should come with a certain standard of service. I would have liked to taste the food, but I won’t be back.

The service at Kladi Elias was outstanding in every way. In the small mountain village of Mesoropi, this boutique hotel feels like a hidden gem in Northern Greece. The spacious suites are nicely decorated, with very comfortable beds and quality bed linen. Viron, the hospitable and friendly owner, serves fantastic food. It’s easy to just relax while he treats you to superb dishes in a cozy setting with great wine.

Dinner was the highlight for me, the food and wine were just perfect, and everything tasted so good I felt like I was at a cooking show. The village is very quiet, giving the stay a secluded feel, and the air is crystal clear. The room was extremely cozy, very clean, and had a designer interior, plus an Illy coffee capsule maker.

The host was such good company, and we had a wonderful time. The food and ambience made it an experience, not just a meal. We also stayed in a beautiful room and had breakfast served on our balcony. It was a full breakfast, and delicious.
