Socrates Organic Village - Wild Olive

I booked one night online on the same day in March 2026 and got a confirmation. After driving four hours, I arrived around 1am to find the front gate locked and two phone numbers to call. I tried both repeatedly, left messages, and pressed the entrance buzzer, but nobody answered or called back. By 1:30am I gave up and drove to Messolonghi to look for somewhere else. It was a pretty awful situation. The next morning, reception at Socrates Organic Village sent a cold, brusque email, saying it wasn't their fault and blaming me. Very bizarre. Anyone booking should know there isn't staff on site after 10pm, which may not work for everyone from a security or support perspective.

The village's organic local products were a highlight, especially the wine and olive oil. The hospitality and atmosphere were amazing, and the staff were super kind and helpful.

We had an amazing stay and booked most of the village for almost a week. There are several room sizes and little cottages with kitchens. My room had Wi-Fi, towels, bedding, a hair dryer, air conditioning, a mini fridge, coffee and tea with a kettle, soap, shampoo, and a towel heater. Everything was clean and tidy, with some amenities. There isn't a restaurant on site, but delivery to the village was easy, and we ordered several times. The town is a short drive away, or about an hour's walk to the KTEL. A car is recommended. There are plenty of places to hang out and two pools. The north pool has a smaller knee-high section, good for wading or small children. The water was salt water, not chlorine, and the property was very well maintained and clean. The views of the small mountains were amazing, and being away from the city made things peaceful and quiet. Fruit trees are everywhere, including pomegranates, figs, prickly pears, limes, and apples. There's also a little animal pen with dogs, chickens, geese, ducks, and lambs. Our two-year-old loved visiting them every day. Keep an eye on food left unattended, though, because the stray cats WILL go after it. The staff spoke English pretty well and were generous, great hosts. While we relaxed by the pool, they often brought us water, local wine, and fresh watermelon. The gym is small but has lots of equipment. The sauna takes about 30m-1h to warm up, so let the staff know ahead of time. The hot tub wasn't in service during my visit in Sept 2025, though maybe it's open in the busy season. I'd stay here again!

We first stayed for one night in 2019 and were thrilled by the friendly people, the facilities, and the simple, delicious breakfast of organic eggs and oranges. When we returned in 2025, what was already great had got even better. The staff were extremely friendly, the rooms and garden had been upgraded, and breakfast now included scratch-made baked goods along with the organic products.
