Ilion Hotel

The balcony view was stunning, and the hotel is romantic, well cared for, tastefully furnished, and very clean. Breakfast was good, with fresh orange juice, bacon and eggs, plenty of fruit, Greek treats, and coffee made to order. We had a latte. The towels, bedding, comfortable beds, and pillows were all good quality, just like home. The bathroom is small but has everything you need. It’s close to everything while still being quiet and peaceful, with great restaurants and shops nearby and an organized small-pebble beach a 5-minute walk away. The hotel is up a bit of a hill, which could be hard for elderly or infirm guests, but parking is provided. We had a fantastic stay out of season, and the owners were very nice. We loved it and will be back.

The breakfast was one of the best I’ve had in a long time, with fresh orange juice, lots of sweet and savory choices, cooked and uncooked food, and different coffee styles. Our superior double room had a lovely little balcony and a great view. The beds, linen, towels, and shower were all excellent, and the hostess was lovely. There’s a lot of character and a lovely feel to the place. It sits in the castle walls, a little way up the hill, right in town and near restaurants, cafes, the harbor, and castle. There was free parking in front. It felt like excellent value, and I was sad to leave after just one night. I don’t understand why it isn’t rated four stars. The only thing missing is an elevator. The hostess insisted on carrying our luggage, but the stairs would be an issue for anyone with mobility problems.

From the hotel, the harbour is an easy stroll, though the walk back uphill is a bit of a pull. There’s parking available. We ate at Eo Oivoc, about 10 minutes away, and it was very lively. The views are fantastic, breakfast superb, staff lovely, and rooms nice. This place is a gem, and I can’t recommend it enough.

The stone building has a wonderful feel, and its elevated setting gives you great views. The balconies were amazing, and the breakfast on the front patio was the best we had in two weeks around Athens and Western Greece for quality and quantity. The rooms themselves were decent-sized but pretty ordinary. If available, book a third-floor room. It’s very quiet here, even though downtown is only a 5-minute walk away, and the price was very reasonable. The main drawbacks would be the stairs and the uphill approach to the front door. I drove a European-sized SUV, perhaps like a North American crossover, and had no trouble with the narrow road to the parking lot, though I’m comfortable driving in tight spaces.
