Grande Bretagne

We had a great time and will definitely come back. The atmosphere was warm and welcoming, the food was delicious, and service was quick and attentive. Christos, our waiter, was especially friendly and welcoming, compliments to him for the excellent service. The pizzas were outstanding, full of flavor and cooked just right.

We stayed calm and tried to sort things out amicably, including asking for a refund, but the front desk staff wouldn’t help or compromise. They weren’t hostile or angry, thankfully, so things didn’t escalate, but they kept insisting nobody, including our credit card company, would refund us. The staff member also wouldn’t let us return to the room with our dog to collect our belongings. We booked believing the hotel allowed pets, based on our research and screenshots from Google Maps and other sites. We were allowed to check in with the dog in plain view, and we left and returned several times with the dog. Then, as we were heading out for dinner, the front desk stopped us and said dogs weren’t allowed. They refused to look at our booking receipts or the hotel information online, which clearly said pets were allowed. I understand that establishments can make these kinds of oversights, but there was no effort to resolve it or refund our room. The staff member focused on telling us the hotel wasn’t pet friendly, claiming the websites meant the public area in front of the hotel. He was completely unwilling to consider the information we showed him or find a compromise.

The location is great, but I’d have preferred somewhere more up to date. The furniture was stained and unpleasant, and the smells were strange: indoors it was like talcum powder everywhere, while opening a window meant being suffocated by smoke from a local barbecue place.

Right in town, with good rooms and wonderful staff. The place has a sort of 1878 feel to it. It isn’t cheap, but you get what you pay for.
