Kanale's Rooms and Suites

We asked for a nice room with a balcony view, but ended up with three costly “superior” rooms that had no view. Kensington had booked them for our group, apparently thinking “superior” meant better, though the only extra was a single bed we didn't need. The rooms faced a shared pool patio, with no breeze or privacy and plenty of noise. Pool lights stayed on all night, so the rooms never got dark, and the curtains hung a foot from the window. There was also a sewer gas smell in the bathrooms, and noise carried through the thin connecting door. These rooms were the last thing from superior.

At breakfast on our first day, we asked whether the buffet was all there was because we'd seen online that there was also a menu. The red haired woman serving breakfast replied, “WHAT, YOU WANT MORE?” We weren't asking for extra, we'd only just arrived. It turned out there was a menu as well as the buffet, but the servers seemed too lazy and miserable to offer it or bring the food. That's not how you treat people on vacation who have paid a lot to stay at your hotel.

The biggest problem was the noise. We could hear conversations from the neighboring rooms as clearly as if they were in ours, and it woke us more than once at night. We also booked a port transfer through Kanales Hotel for around €44, thinking from what we'd been told that it would be a private car. Instead it was shared, arrived late, and left us rushing and stressed about catching our ferry. The way this was handled disappointed us. Clear communication matters when schedules and expectations are involved, and this left a bad impression at the end. Apart from that, the stay was relatively good: a charming local boutique hotel, decent-sized room and nice breakfast options. We just didn't feel the price matched the value.

Breakfast had a delicious range of choices, and sitting outside gave us a beautiful view. My daughters and I had a wonderful stay at Kanales. The staff were friendly and helpful, and our spacious room had a charming Greek feel, with one bed in a separate area. The village and bus were a short walk away, and from the village port you can take a ferry to some nice beaches. A great place to stay!
