Potidea Golden Beach

The hotel is really close to the beach, and the bed was a little firm but I slept like a baby. From room 305A, you can see the sea from the balcony between two buildings. It’s not a majestic view, but it was good enough for me. Every room I know of had working AC and a fridge. We also found a way around the 5 EUR/day AC charge with one press of the button on the unit. The check-in took over two hours, though, and service and maintenance were poor. Some days the food was barely edible. The scrambled eggs were greasy and seemed rancid, the wieners had a particular spice that gave them a weird taste to me, and the cheese and ham were good. For dinner I had cooked meat with only salt and some bland pasta. There was other food, but it was prepared for another group. AC costs 5 EUR/day.

The only decent thing was having a roof over our heads for the night. We waited almost an hour to check in because the receptionist didn’t know we were arriving and didn’t speak any English. The rooms and amenities looked nothing like the booking photos. The pool wasn’t cleaned or even filled, and the restaurant was a mess. They were cleaning it on our fourth day. Everything looked rundown. There are three buildings, but they only seem to look after the main one with reception. The other two were in a disgusting state. At checkout, we waited another 40 minutes for anyone to show up, and I had to call the “emergency number” to get someone to reception. A woman spoke to me like I was an idiot when I said we’d missed our bus from the village because of them. The next one wasn’t for over an hour. This place was maybe worth €10-15 a night, not €70. They advertise it as three-star, but I don’t see how it’s even worth half a star. Do not stay here. The service and experience were atrocious.

The Wi-Fi was only in the lobby, where it didn’t actually work, despite the online description saying it was available in the rooms. There was no mobile reception anywhere on the property either, so we couldn’t contact anyone, arrange travel, or work. My girlfriend and I ended up calling the police because the situation was completely out of control. We complained about mold in our first room and got a replacement that smelled just as bad and had the same problems. Every room we saw had visible mold and a strong, disgusting smell as soon as the door opened. There was mold everywhere, even painted over, as if a new coat of paint could cover a health hazard. Some rooms had air conditioning that didn’t work, leaving you in a hot, damp, mold-filled box. The beds were filthy, with stained sheets, and felt as if they hadn’t been properly cleaned. They were also lumpy, hard, and worn out, not something you can get used to after a night. Management seemed completely incompetent and the staff equally unprofessional. The place felt worse than budget hostels I’ve stayed in remote areas. The mold smell could trigger respiratory problems, and the filth made me wonder how they’re allowed to operate. This was one of the worst travel experiences of our lives, and I wouldn’t recommend it even to my worst enemy. Stay anywhere else, even sleep in your car. Don’t book here.

I’ve never stayed in a worse hotel. For two days there was no warm water to wash my kids. I complained to the staff and the agency, but they just said they’d arrange it. On the third day, we had to come back from the beach at four o’clock to get a little warm water. The staff were rude, and the room was old and unclean. A nightmare.
