Castello Rosso Hotel

That walk along the shore into Nea Styra is what I keep thinking about, whether for a freddo cappuccino or dinner. The beach is close and easy to reach, and the hotel is well placed for the port town. We came to Evia knowing nothing about this part of the island, and earlier reviews led us to Castello Rosso. We couldn't have chosen somewhere more charming or convenient. Our apartment was kept spotless, and including breakfast was a great choice. The family-run hotel has a relaxed feel, with guests left to do their own thing, though the owners are very helpful when you need local information. The pool and gardens are clearly looked after by friendly, efficient staff. I still miss the sea and that walk, and we'll definitely come back. Thanks, Castello Rosso, for a wonderful week!

My family and I stayed at theCastello Rosso hotel over Easter weekend.

The owners were flexible when we had to change our booking a couple of times, and the hotel felt like good value for a quiet seaside break. Our room was a decent size, very clean, and looked out on a lovely peaceful garden. It's a family-run place that would suit someone travelling alone, a couple, or a family. The WiFi could use improvement: the signal was weak and the connection very slow. I'd still definitely recommend it.

The best parts were the location, a couple of minutes' walk from the sea, the lovely pool area, the good coffee there (for an extra charge), and the staff's very polite, cheerful attitude. The rest was a letdown. Our room was too small, though the bedroom itself was acceptable, and the bathroom was a nightmare. Water kept ending up on the floor, maybe from the shower tray or toilet cistern. The toilet bowl was tiny, and the cramped space around it made sitting uncomfortable. There were no lights outside our room at night, so we needed flashlights to unlock the door. The parking couldn't fit all the guests; when it was full, the alternative was an open field surrounded by tall grass, with no gate. Breakfast choices were very limited, and the coffee was not worth mentioning.
