Castro Apartments

The rooms were roomy and very clean, and the location was excellent.

We had a two-bedroom apartment with a big balcony where the kids could play. The kitchenette had enough utensils for quick meals, the air conditioning worked more than well enough, and the internet signal was strong. The apartments are clean and comfortable, just three minutes from the beach and promenade at Astros beach. Very good for the price.

Elena, the owner, was kind and helpful, and the prices were very good. The building is lovely, set in a beautiful spot close to the sea and right by the shops. Our room was clean and comfortable, with a large kitchen equipped with everything and comfortable beds.

The bathroom was the worst part for us. The shower was tiny, about half a square metre, and even a small child would barely fit. An adult, especially someone with a few extra kilos, couldn’t get a proper wash in there. There’s no window or solid shower wall, just a flimsy plastic corner curtain that gets pushed aside as you move, so water ends up all over the bathroom. It really needs to be rebuilt. That’s why I gave the room three stars. The apartment itself was nice, with a beautiful, quiet and cool inner courtyard. The rooms were clean, the terrace comfortable, and access was easy. It’s near a supermarket, the beach, and plenty of cafes, bars and restaurants. The owner was especially lovely, sweet and helpful. There were other issues too. Each apartment has just one air conditioner in the kitchen for the whole place. When we, two couples staying for two nights, shut the bedroom doors to sleep, it got quite warm. A small fan in each room would help. One bedroom had no small table or bedside table for personal belongings. There’s an electric water heater rather than a solar one, so you have to keep switching it on and off, and that adds to the electricity cost over time. I’m surprised a rental for tourists in 2024 doesn’t have a solar heater.
